Neymar Becomes Third Highest-Paid Sportsman in the World After Joining PokerStars
Neymar da Silva Santos Junior, popularly known as Neymar, is a Brazilian professional footballer who plays as a forward for French club Paris Saint-Germain and the Brazil national team. He is also a brand ambassador for the online poker site PokerStars.
Following his record-breaking move to PSG from Barcelona in August 2017, Neymar has become the third highest-paid sportsman in the world, with an annual salary of €36 million (£31 million/$43 million). Only Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi earn more than the 25-year-old Brazilian.
Ronaldo currently earns $93 million per year at Real Madrid, while Messi brings in $80 million annually from Barcelona. Neymar’s salary at PSG is also more than double that of his former teammate at Barcelona, Luis Suarez, who earns €17 million (£14.5/$20.5) per year at the Camp Nou.
Neymar’s wage package at PSG also includes a number of bonuses and commercial incentives. In March 2018, it was reported that the Brazilian had agreed to let his image rights be owned by the French club in order to help them meet UEFA’s Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations.
PSG were hit with a €200 million fine earlier this season for Breach of FFP rules, which stipulate that clubs must break even over a three-year period or face sanctions. As part of Neymar’s transfer agreement last year, PSG agreed to pay his former club Barcelona €40 million (£34/$47 million) plus any additional taxes due on the deal. This brought the total cost of the transfer to €222 million, making it the most expensive in history.
Despite being some way behind Ronaldo and Messi in terms of salary, Neymar is still one of the best-paid players in world football and has set his sights on becoming the first billionaire footballer. In an interview with France Football last year, he said: “I want to be one of those guys who leaves their mark on football… I’m not motivated by money but I want to be comfortable.”
With sponsorship deals from Nike, Panasonic, Red Bull and Beats by Dre among others, Neymar is already well on his way to achieving this goal. His current sponsorship contracts are worth around £30 million ($39 million) per year, and this is expected to increase significantly following his move to PSG.
PokerStars Signs Neymar to Sponsorship Deal Worth €77 Million
Online poker giant PokerStars has announced a sponsorship deal with Brazilian soccer superstar Neymar Jr that is reportedly worth €77 million over the next six years.
The move is seen as a major coup for PokerStars, which is looking to expand its presence in Brazil. Neymar is considered by many to be the best player in the world, and his popularity is sure to help boost the brand’s profile in his home country.
“This is an incredibly exciting day for PokerStars,” said Eric Hollreiser, the company’s director of communications. “Neymar is one of the most talented and popular athletes on the planet, and we are proud to have him represent our brand.”
Neymar was equally enthusiastic about the new partnership. “I’m very excited to be working with PokerStars,” he said. “They are a big global brand and I’m looking forward to helping them grow their business in Brazil.”
The sponsorship deal comes at a time when PokerStars is experiencing rapid growth in Brazil. The company opened a new office in São Paulo earlier this year and has been signing up new players at a brisk pace. Neymar’s involvement should only accelerate that trend.
In addition to being one of the world’s most popular athletes, Neymar is also one of its richest, with an estimated net worth of $175 million. He is already sponsored by some of the biggest brands in sports, including Nike, Panasonic, Red Bull, and Beats by Dre.
Flamengo Partner PokerStars in Multi-Year Deal
PokerStars, the world’s largest online poker room, has agreed to a multi-year partnership with Flamengo, one of Brazil’s top football clubs.
The deal will see PokerStars become the club’s Official Gaming and Online Poker Partner, with the company set to provide a range of exclusive content to Flamengo fans. The agreement will also see PokerStars promote Flamengo across its global markets.
“This is an important day for Flamengo,” said Rubro-Negro President Eduardo Bandeira de Mello. “Our partnership with PokerStars, a brand as iconic as ours in Brazil, confirms our commitment to innovation and technology, which are key pillars of our strategy.”
Added Bandeira de Mello: “We are confident that this alliance will be very beneficial for both Flamengo and PokerStars. Our fans will have access to unique and first-rate content, while PokerStars will be able to reach new audiences via one of the most popular clubs in the world.”
“It is an honour for us to partner with such an iconic club as Flamengo,” said Eric Hollreiser, Director of Corporate Communications at PokerStars. “This exciting new venture gives us a tremendous opportunity to engage with football fans all around the world.”
The deal comes as Brazil prepares for this summer’s World Cup, which kicks off on 14th June. Flamengo are one of the most successful clubs in Brazilian football history, having won eighteen Campeonato Carioca titles – more than any other team.
Neymar Jr joins PokerStars as brand ambassador
Brazilian soccer superstar Neymar Jr. has become a brand ambassador for PokerStars, the world’s largest online poker site.
Neymar joins fellow sports stars Cristiano Ronaldo, Rafa Nadal and Michael Jordan as an ambassador for PokerStars. The 25-year-old says he is looking forward to helping promote the game of poker and working with the site’s team of professionals.
“I am thrilled to be joining PokerStars as an ambassador,” Neymar said in a statement. “I have always loved the game of poker and I am excited to help promote it to a global audience. I am looking forward to working with the team at PokerStars and sharing my knowledge of the game with them.”
PokerStars spokesman Eric Hollreiser said Neymar was a natural choice for an ambassador given his love for the game and his profile around the world.
“Neymar is passionate about poker and already has a large following around the world,” Hollreiser said. “He is ideal for us as we continue to grow our business internationally. We are excited to work with him and help him reach even more people with his love for poker.”
The news comes just weeks after Neymar was embroiled in controversy following his transfer from Barcelona to French club Paris Saint-Germain in a record-breaking $261 million deal. Neymar has denied any wrongdoing in the move, which is currently being investigated by UEFA.
Neymar to be exclusive brand ambassador for PokerStars
On the heels of Neymar’s record-breaking move to Paris Saint-Germain, PokerStars, the world’s largest online poker site, has announced that the Brazilian superstar will be its new brand ambassador.
In a statement released by PokerStars on Tuesday, Neymar said that he was “thrilled” to be partnering with the company.
“PokerStars is a huge global brand and I am really looking forward to working with them as they continue to grow in popularity all over the world,” he said.
Neymar will reportedly promote PokerStars through social media and at live events. He is also expected to appear in TV and online commercials for the site.
The deal comes nearly two years after Neymar was banned from playing online poker by the Brazilian government. At the time, Neymar was quoted as saying that he was “heartbroken” by the ban.
It is not yet clear if Neymar will be able to play on PokerStars now that he is an ambassador for the site.
